Calls for Climate Action

Help get the COP15 negotiators attention

The Copenhagen Climate Exchange has sent a clear message to the COP 15 negotiations, the official UN climate summit, with ’Calls for Climate Action’. Every visitor at the Copenhagen Climate Exchange was invited to participate in developing and qualifying a series of messages that was handed over to the COP15 negotiators and world leaders at Bella Centre in Copenhagen.

We cannot say this enough: UN’s climate summit in Copenhagen has to culminate in an ambitious agreement. The whole world and old Mother Earth is doing its best to make us realize the seriousness of it all. The participants in the Copenhagen Climate Exchange is collectively sending a clear message to the COP15 leaders at the official UN climate summit that they should not be worried about making an ambitious new global climate agreement in Copenhagen that will cut CO2 emissions considerably; the people are behind you and there is a will to act all over the world.

All participants in the Climate Exchange – from guests, exhibitors and lecturers – were invited to develop and qualify the Calls for Climate Action that will be presented to the UN negotiators at Bella Centre.

The organisers, Danish Society for Nature Conservation, facilitated a daily workshops each of the four days of the exhibition together with the BioRegional Development Group, an entrepreneurial charity which initiates and delivers practical solutions that help us to live within a fair share of the earth’s resources. Together, the two NGO’s have developed an overall workshop framework that will enable the views and contributions from workshop participants during the four days of exhibition to be voiced at COP15.

The Calls for Climate Action aim to encourage COP15 negotiators and world leaders to adopt a new climate agreement in Copenhagen and establish frameworks that will:

• support and build on locally based existing initiatives and encouraging to enhance more of this kind of locally based activities – we can make it happen.

• demand effective delivery at all levels: individuals, local communities, organisations/companies and governments.

• encourage actors at all levels to realize their potential and thereby create further climate action.

• set ambitious targets both on short term and long term

The Calls for Climate Action ultimately aim to send a strong and joint message from a wide range of citizens, businesses, and NGOs that will gather at the Copenhagen Climate Exchange the days prior to the COP15 climate summit. The Calls will constitute the ‘green voice’ at the COP15 summit and will inspire the negotiators and political leaders to reach a new, ambitious global climate agreement.
These Calls were presented on the last day of the Copenhagen Climate Exchange– 6th December 2009– and handed over to the political COP15 leaders at the climate summit in Copenhagen.
